Bengaluru vs. Hyderabad: Where Should You Be Hiring Full-Stack Engineers?
Teams opening a second engineering location in India default to Bengaluru without checking whether that's still the right call. It often still is — but not automatically.
Talent depth
Bengaluru has the deeper bench, full stop — more candidates at every seniority, and a wider spread of company backgrounds to source from. If you need to hire fast, at volume, Bengaluru remains the safer bet.
Hyderabad's pool is smaller but has grown quickly on the back of GCC expansion. For mid-to-senior full-stack roles specifically, the gap has narrowed more than most hiring plans assume.
Competition for the same candidates
This is where the real difference shows up. Bengaluru has more open roles chasing the same senior candidates — expect more competing offers, more counter-offers from current employers, and longer negotiation cycles for anyone above mid-level.
Hyderabad has fewer companies fishing in the same pool at the top end, which in practice means faster closes for senior hires, even with a smaller total candidate base.
Compensation
Comp expectations run close between the two cities at junior and mid levels — the gap that used to exist has mostly closed. At senior levels, Bengaluru still commands a modest premium, largely driven by the density of product companies and GCCs bidding against each other.
The practical takeaway
- Hiring at volume, junior-to-mid: Bengaluru's depth wins.
- Hiring senior, need to close fast: Hyderabad's lighter competition can mean a shorter cycle, even against a smaller pool.
- Hiring both: worth splitting the req rather than defaulting everything to one city — we've seen faster overall fills running searches in parallel across both.
